The queens in this colony can produce more than 2000 eggs a day. It is not uncommon to have more than one queen in termite colonies. Termites tend to be grouped based on their feeding habits. Termite workers build and maintain nests to house the colony. Nests are commonly built underground, in large pieces of timber, inside fallen trees or in the branches of living trees. They can also find their way into your home and furniture when they swarm. You can determine if you have a termite issue if you are occasionally seeing piles of "sand-like" droppings.
Termites are weak fragile insects and when exposed can easily be overcome by other insects. To avoid peril, termites cover their tracks with tubes made of feces, plant matter and soil. To this termite species, any breach of their tunnels is cause for alarm. The soldiers will attract other soldiers for defense by banging their heads as well as recruit workers to repair the breach. This type of Termite can cause large amounts of damage very quickly. If you think you may have this type of termite it is best not to wait to treat and to seek a professional as soon as possible.
This pest can commonly be mistaken for termites but in fact they are not. While both pests leave a debris behind, this pest gets it's name from the fine dust-like powder it leaves behind. These beetles can be found boring into hard and soft wood. This can range from trees to structures to furniture. They can also be found feeding on spices, grains, dried foods, and medication. You may even find them in simple items such as decorative baskets.
