Nettle Caterpillars are the stinging larva of an Asian moth. Colors may vary from white to grey and typically a dark stripe along the back and grow to approximately an inch in length. Nettle's are covered in rows of poisonous spines. These can create a burning or itching sensation. Welts and blisters may also occur. These pests tend to peak during the summer months. These pests tend to prefer plants such as Ti Leaves, Irises, Lilies, palms and decorative grasses.
Some people may not be aware of the extent these mollusks can damage gardens because they are nocturnal. Snails and slugs damage plants & seedlings and can devour plant leaves & seeds leaving unsightly holes and tears that can leave the plants vulnerable to plant rot, fungus, viruses and bacteria.
The holes and mucus slime they leave behind can make plants unattractive and sickly.
