WHAT ARE PESTICIDES?

     A pesticide is any substance or mixture of substances intended for preventing, destroying, or repelling a pest.

WHAT ARE SIGNAL WORDS?

     Signal words are found on product labels:

CAUTION: means the product is slightly toxic, if eaten, absorbed through skin, inhaled, or causes slight skin or eye irritation.

WARNING: indicates the product is moderately toxic if eaten, absorbed through skin, inhaled, or causes slight skin or eye irritation.

DANGER: means the product is highly toxic by at least one route of exposure. It may be corrosive, causing irreversible damage to the skin or eyes. Alternatively, it may be highly toxic if eaten, absorbed through skin, or inhaled. If this is the case, then the word "poison" must also be included in red letters on the front panel of the product label.

DO HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS CONTAIN PESTICIDES?

     All these common products are considered pesticides:

Cockroach sprays and baits

Insect repellents for personal use

Rodent Baits

Flea & Tick sprays, powders, and pet collars

Kitchen, Laundry, and Bath disinfectants and sanitizers

Some lawn and garden products, such as weed killers

Some swimming pool chemicals

HAS THERE REALLY BEEN A RESURGENCE IN BEDBUGS IN THE U.S. AND HOW DO YOU KNOW?

     There has been an increase in infestations. Members of pest control companies who received 1-2 calls per year are now reporting 1-2 per week.
